Graham: Vick has to be accountable

Bengals kicker Shayne Graham was a teammate of Michael Vick's for two seasons at Virginia Tech.

Graham reacted this afternoon to Vick's guilty plea in the federal dog-fighting case against the Falcons quarterback.

"I like dogs. I hate hearing stuff like that. People have to be held accountable for what they do. It's an issue of, you know, I wouldn't want to do that to one of my dogs, a friend's dog, or any one's dog. I can't imagine any one doing it to their own dog," Graham said.

"It's a bad situation. It's time for the legal process to play out now. Unfortunately, I have always been a friend of his. It's a tough deal. I'm not going to throw him under the bus for his whole life. He has to be accountable.

"No one is really happy about it. The animal rights activists, everybody, nobody is happy. No matter what the punishment is, no matter who gets in trouble, it's just a bad thing in the first place."

Thank you Shayne for "keeping it real". Most athletes would be gutless to have a comment about their friend Vick. You have decided that "transcending" and making white America feel confortable is not number 1 on your list. Good Job Shayne

I agree, Thank you Shayne. I have heard 3 different nfl player on talk radio the past two days all say that we have to keep Michael Vick in our prayers. Why? Vick made a mistake and now he has to suffer the consequences of his mistake. I'm not saying ban him for life, I belive in second chances, but he has to live with the decisions he made, we don't need to feel sorry for or pray for Micahel Vick. You pray for people with cancer and other illness, not people who tourture animals for their own amuesment. Shows you how self-centerened a lot of athletes are.

Interesting to me that people are focusing on the most sensational aspects of this case, but not what I feel is the seminal issue.

The real issue here, is that Vick was participating in an interstate gambling ring.

The mere appearance of impropriety in this area is a very, very serious thing.

Vick's always been streaky... has he been shaving points? Have the Falcons ever lost to teams that they should have beaten?

I'm not saying that Vick threw any games, but now that we know he's been involved in gambling, it certainly puts that thought in your mind.

And THAT is the real issue.

Micheal Vick is a disgrace. He's only sorry because he got caught. We need more people like Shane Graham to speak the honest truth. If Vick is truly sorry how about donating some of the millions you made to peta or some animal shelters? The NFL should ban him for life. Playing in the NFL is a privilage and an honer. I hop character and morals still mean something in the NFL.
