Caleb Miller signs one-year deal

The Bengals this morning signed their final restricted free agent when linebacker Caleb Miller agreed to a one-year contract.

Miller was tendered $850,000 for one year as a restricted free agent.

Coach Marvin Lewis tried to be vague in his pre-draft news conference that ended shortly after noon. He said that the projections he has seen about the draft show that either 3 of their first 4 or 4 of the first 5 players selected could be offensive stars, which would help to push a quality defensive player down to the No. 18 picks for the Bengals.

We have the opportunity to fit some need on defense and get younger," Lewis said.

In terms of the character question, Lewis said players are more affected than teams because NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has shown he will dole out stern penalties for off-field misconduct.

Character matters to the Bengals, Lewis said and is a "consideration (because) we don't (want to) spend any more time trying to reshape lives."

Lewis also raved about Ohio State wide receiver Tedd Ginn Jr. when asked about him directly.

"Don't know if he'll be there when we pick," Lewis said.

The Bengals are expected to go for a defensive player early, but the team is believed to like Ginn and Miami Hurricanes tight end Greg Olsen.

In other developments, Lewis said he does not expect tailback Chris Perry to be ready for the start of training camp. Perry broke his ankle last season and had to undergo surgery.

Gee, now I can finally relax. All the pieces are together for a SuperBowl run. Right!

What about Hartwell? I'd rather be super-entertained by Ted Ginn returning punts/kickoffs and catching balls and holding my breath on defense (again). One or two picks does not a Super Bowl defense make.... so might as well enjoy an explosive offense.

Mark... you of all people... Marvin Lewis talking up Ted Ginn, where was the obvious comment that this is a sure sign that Ted Ginn will never be drafted by the Bengals, we both know Marvin would never even utter the name of a player he coveted before the draft!! :)

He provides good depth and is a solid player now that he is finally healthy. Not to mention he is a very high character guy.

Marvin talking about possibly drafting Ted Ginn Jr is just a smoke screen.

I say we draft Ginn. He says he wants to go back to playing defense. Why not take a guy with world class speed who can make our special teams the best in the league, who can also be put in at WR, and who actually wants to play defense. Let Joseph and O'Neal start, and you have Keiwan and Brooks there. That gives Teddy plenty of time to learn the D and eventually team up with Joseph to form the best corner combo in the league

No question Ginn is not coming to Cincy. At this point, unless Alan Branch falls to 18, we are taking someone in the secondary. This is a common move for coaches to play this game to not show there hand.

There has been some talk locally about trading Justin Smith to move up and/or get more draft picks. Since he is still technically a free agent, I'm not sure we can do that. Doesn't he have to have a signed contract with the Bengals to be eligible for trade ?

I'm not too sure I want Branch. Why take an underachieving DT in the first round ? Can you say Dan Wilkerson II ? I'd rather take one of the DBs. Leon Hall, Darrelle Revis, Aaron Ross or Reggie Nelson. One of those 4 should be there at 18.

I still think we need to draft a running back. We should take Michael Bush in the second round if he is available and groom him like Rudi was groomed behind Corey.

I think the good idea would be to go ahead and draft ginn so we could have a great defensive coverage... if we draft ginn we should start him in all the preseason games so he can get used to the D then he will be ready for some easier teams we have on our schedual this year!

we should draft ginn it would be the dumbest mistake not to...
if we draft ginn and put him with joseph then we will have the star defense that we deserve... and for the people who still think we should draft a new running back ur wrong rudi has the speed and strength... wat we need is some better players to block rudi through the line as u can see in this video of Rudi Johnson in collage(youtube.com)and type rudi johnson in collage...if u watch the video then u will come to understand like i did that Rudi is evenly balanced in speed, agility and power.
