Bengals RFA Andrews visits Jets

Stacy Andrews, a restricted free agent, is visiting the New York Jets today.

He is expected to compete with Andrew Whitworth for the starting left guard position.

Andrews arrived in New York on Monday night. His visit is tied to that with the Jets of Patriots' cornerback Randall Gay.

In 2006, Andrews enjoyed his first starting experience on offense. He started three games at right guard in place of starter Bobbie Williams, who underwent an emergency appendectomy.

Andrews played in all 16 games for the first time in his three NFL seasons. He started Games 10-12 and played at right tackle in the second half in place of the injured Willie Anderson at Indianapolis Dec. 18.

As a restricted free agent, Andrews has the right to make free agent visits to other teams. The Bengals would have a one-week period in which to decide whether to match any offer sheet that Andrews might sign.

Andrews is beginning to deliver on his immense athletic talent. The Bengals drafted him in the fourth round in 2004, even though he had played just one season of organized football – his senior year at Ole Miss.

As a result, the Bengals tendered Andrews a $1.3 million, one-year offer this spring as a restricted free agent. They would receive a second-round draft pick as compensation from any team that signed him, which would help the Bengals retain him.

Stacy Andrews has been a project since day one. Drafted as a OT, he had very little football experience. He was a solid track and field guy but only played 6 games or so in college. He never panned out on the OL and was then tried on the D-Line which went terribly. Now he is testing the free-agent market...??? Well I say goodbye. When you hear the physical attributes of 6'7" 350lbs and can run a 4.9 40 you are blinded by the fact that he has nearly no ability. This was a great sleeper pick by Marvin Lewis however, some sleepers never wake up...

As much as I like the depth of our offensive line, which allowed us not to HAVE TO retain Steinbach, if Andrews signs with NY I would not match. Getting a 2nd round choice for a back up offensive lineman, is a godsend!

what the hell are you talking about?? Stacy Andrews has developed pretty much the way the Bengals expected him to develop and when given a chance to play last year, played well enough to warrant a tender offer that would get the Bengals a second round pick if he signs elsewhere (not to mention, the chance to comete for a starting job this season). Do some research before you post.

i'll take a second rounder...we could get a good pick with the jets #2.

go three defense picks in 1-2....or is it easier to take greg olsen if we know we have 2 2nds?

can always get a guard in the 4th.

I agree... Stacy Andrews has developed nicely. The games he did start and play in last year he was an asset and not a liability. I'd trade him for a second round pick though in order to help out the defense. I think a second round pick is a fair deal especially if you look at his potential in the future combine with what he showed last year. I'd be comfortable with him starting every game. I hope the jets do sign him so we can level out talent across the team.
