CB James close to signing with Patriots

Word out of the Boston area tonight is former Bengals cornerback Tory James is close to signing a contract to play for the Patriots. They must be hurting for help.

James got old fast in the past season and a half. He was maybe the fourth best cornerback on the roster last season. Rookie Johnathan Joseph should have been starting sooner.

If I were a Bengals' fan, I would have rather seen Keiwan Ratliff on the field than James. Ratliff will come up and tackle against the run.

Somehow Patriots will get something out of him. I have no idea how, but they made Artrell Hawkins a productive member of society. They need to run halfway houses. Could James be useful as a nickel safety?? Doubtful with his A) declining speed, and B) aversion to contact..

No kiddin, that's pretty hard up for the Pats.Your time frame about James is accurate too,he did drop off the map at the end of 2005.They could have platooned CB with Kaes and Ratliff til they felt Joseph was ready. Now we have to get a CB and S IMO because we have no depth and are on the wait and see plan with Deltha as we were with Tory last season.

Mark,I've heard Deltha is not a team player and can't even handle a simple event like lunch. Is this just BS or what??What's your take on the "Deltha" situation and secondary for that matter??

Not surprised O'Neal can't handle lunch. Remember the reports at the end of the season that James. O'Neal and Joseph left the complex before lunch every day. Hopefully James and O'Neal have not ruined Joseph w/ lessons on what it means to be a pro.
Have to assume if the Pats sign James it is w/ minimal bonus $ so the exposure is small when he is cut.
