Agent: Bengals express interest in LB Porter

The Bengals, Browns, Dolphins and other teams have expressed interest in free agent linebacker Joey Porter, agent Jeff Sperbeck said this afternoon. Porter was released Thursday by the Steelers to create space in their salary cap.

Porter, 29, was in the final year of his contract and had been Pittsburgh's starting right outside linebacker since 2000.

agreed. if we're missing an identity as marvin says. i think a pissed off good linebacker like porter might help to construct one. plus, he already hates the browns, and now he'll have an axe to grind with pittsburgh.

This would be a very good signing. He would lead a defense that needs an identity. Simmons never did that, but had the chance.

I have to agree...

With the other moves the Bengals have made in the past few weeks, they should be in good position to afford Porter. At 29, it would not be a big risk.

In order to compete with the top tier teams in the NFL, you have to make a big deal like this once in awhile. Time for the Bengals to decide if they really want to be that top tier team, or shy back, and remain in the second tier.

joey porter is a steeler, i dont want him, we dont need a 30 year old LB who has lost a step. we need Odell to come back, and a solid draft. period.
