Jones practices, will play at Denver, Lewis says

Left tackle Levi Jones, who has not played since starting Oct. 15 at Tampa Bay, will play Sunday at Denver, coach Marvin Lewis said after practice this afternoon.

Jones dressed but did not play Monday night at Indianapolis.

"Yeah," Lewis said when asked if Jones would play.

"I don't know," he said when asked if Jones would start. "I haven't made that decision. ... He's excited, and his teammates are excited for him. He's the guy we feel like is a very, very good player. We made a commitment to him to be our tackle. He's been fighting to get back, so it's good."

Jones remained listed as questionable on the official injury report but did practice today. Rookie Andrew Whitworth, who has started and played well since Jones' injury, struggled for the first time Monday night, allowing Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney three sacks.

As rumors continue to swirl about Carson Palmer and his shoulder injury, he did practice today and remained listed as probable.

Defensive end Bryan Robinson (toe) and offensive tackle Willie Anderson (foot) remained probable but did not practice. They are expected to play.

The Bengals will fly tonight to Denver, which was hit with 2 feet of snow Wednesday.

"There's no problem with any weather for us," Lewis said. "We have a longer trip, when you take a longer trip you go earlier."

Nothing his team's serious mood Wednesday, two days after dropping the Indianapolis game, Lewis said, "It's that way after any loss, disappointing, especially when it was as fresh as that one. We don't want them to be merry."

Mark,
The season is over. This team has nothing left to give to the county that gave them 2 BILLION dollars. The coach is now making excuses for not drinking enough water before a game. But Marvin can't stand this much dishonesty. Not for long. Once this team looses in Denver, then we can all say, "Well, the field was too cold, and we couldn't keep hydrated." But Marvin won't be able to look himself in the mirror and say he WANTS to go to the playoffs. He will make one of 2 choices. Either he will become complacent like all the other locals who call themselves fans and believe the team has done it's best, or he will become angry and decide that the dishonesty about what this team is capable of and what it takes to be a champion ENDS.

Our BOZO coaches are PLAYING TO LOSE AGAIN--another stupid timid passive 3rd down pass BEHIND the first down yardage. I can't stand watching this team play anymore...all that talent and we can't throw a 6 yard+ pass on 3rd and 5? Come on! Fire whomever is calling plays. He has no clue how to get the best from the Bengals offense!

What a bunch of stupid (mistake prone) and gutless (3 yard pass on 3rd & 5; delay of game on 4th and makeable) plays by yet another unprepared team. This team is nether playoff caliber or playoff worthy.

Despite his pro bowl selection, Carson is not a playoff caliber QB either.

PATHETIC!

Man, are the Bengals cursed or what? We can't kick a #$%* extra point! It's just downright painful to follow this for 15 years.

Chad was MIA for the second week in a row...big games, where is he? No where to be found.

Bengals don't desreve to get into the playoffs - any team who has there destiny in their own hands two weeks in a row and can't come thru deserve to be cleaning out lockers new years day....

It's the playing calling and offensive philosophy--whomever is calling offensive plays needs to be shut down--Palmer is a great QB, I can't believe you guys are pinning this loss on him. McDunce-o Sinko's motion penalty and fumble and drop when wide-open were the biggest differences in Denver. Sure Palmer made some bad reads and lousy throws BUT...Palmer will get better if the play calling gets more agressive especially early--balls out stretch the field bombs away is what this team MUST DO in the first quarter. Chad needs to show up next week....but of course the Jets will probably go 2-0 from here and our stupid offensive coordinator/play callers (if by committee), having BLOWN two or three games this year (losing to Tampa Bay should have cost SOMEONE his job) should be FIRED if this team doesn't luck into the Wildcard. The Bengals are more aggravating to watch when all their talent (underused tightends, overused lousy Chadster) is mismanaged...I'd rather see Akili Smith and 2-14 than some of the PREMIER WRs (not you, Chad) and a great QB get stuck with short dump-off passes and really poorly designed runs (especially going to the well too often). Anyway, thanks Bengals coaches, for a really lousy game (again) on Christmas! You stink!

Look at playoff teams in the AFC. The Bengals are the only team to play all the division winners and 1-4 against them and throw in Denver and its 1-5.. Lets be honest.. Injurys to Braham, Jones, Pollack, Simmons, O'Neal and on a lesser level injuries/suspensions to Thurman/Henry/Chatman/Washington/T.Perry/C.Perry and still have 8 or 9 wins this year isn't all that bad in this league.. If your tired of the Bengals being 8-8, then there is 31 other teams to root for.. Ask Cleveland, Detroit, Arizona & Oakland fans how nice it would be to have at least 8 wins 4 years in a row just like us Bengal fans wanted from 1991 to 2002...

Look all you nay-sayers....just a few years ago we would KILL to have 8 wins, much less a chance at the playoffs two years in a row (something this franchise has only done once before mind you). They had a gruesome schedule, lost some key players but still may end up 9-7. Not too bad if you ask me. Yeah they may not be quite in the elite status yet...but give them another draft. BTW...I would take Carson in a heartbeat over anybody else in the league (except maybe Peyton).

ummm, is it just me or are people in need of some perspective? I can't believe they lost on a blown extra point, and indeed they played poorly in many aspects Sunday. At the same time, they've been competitive in 13 of 15 games, they've had almost zero luck all year [questionable calls, bad bounces (except in Pittsburgh), and a mangled o-line], and they still have a chance because the Jets could very well spit the bit in one of these next two games. After those 15 awful years, and all of the bad kharma this year, I'll take a meaningful game on the last Sunday of the year.

As to Marvin Lewis: great coaches develop over time, and he's shown enough success for me to give him a few more years. Cleveland gave up on Belichick. I suspect they'd like to have him back.
