Agent: Bengals get DT Adams for 3 years

By Mark Curnutte
Enquirer staff writer

The Bengals will sign defensive tackle to a three-year contract today, agent Angelo Wright confirmed overnight to the Enquirer.

"We're pretty close right now," said Wright, who was headed to Los Angeles for an NFL Players Association meeting. "Three years is correct."

The 335-pound Adams played for Bengals coach Marvin Lewis when Lewis coordinator the Super Bowl-winning Ravens’ defense. Adams should help strengthen the Bengals’ run defense, which had received a boost earlier in free agency when the club signed sure-tackling safety Dexter Jackson.

Adams will team with returning starters John Thornton and Brian Robinson, as well as Shaun Smith, in the team’s tackle rotation.

Yes, now maybe we can concentrate on TE or Strong Safety. Leonard Pope TE from Georgia in the 1st is a freak of nature, a run stuffing DT in the 2nd Gabe Watson or Claude Wroten, and Greg Blue in the 3rd also from Georgia. Sounds good to me. The Bulldogs have been very kind to us the last few drafts.

Does this increase our chance of switching to the 3-4?

Too bad those players won't be around in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. And Pope might not even be around in the 1st. Keep wishing!

How about we select Reggie Bush first, Mario Williams in the second round, AJ Hawk in the third, D'Brickashaw Ferguson in the fourth, Jimmy Williams in the fifth, Winston Justice in the sixth, and Santonio Holmes in the seventh.
Sounds good to me. Man we would be awesome!!!

Blue is actually down on most draft boards after running a 4.7+ forty. He doesn't seem to fit Marvin's preference for "cover" safeties. I also don't really see the point in taking a tight end with the first pick - our offense will be fine - we need to continue to improve the defense.

I would love Donte Whitner in the First if available. Him and a healthy Madieu would be one of the best young pair of safeties in the league.

Blue actually has been projected as an OLB. Odell, Blue, and Pollack. Also that could help to change to a 3-4 defense. Whitner in the 1st, one of the two DT's (which both are project in the 2nd round). Blue in the 3rd (he can just mash people).
