Pollack to start ahead of Landon Johnson

By Mark Curnutte
Enquirer staff writer

The Bengals today will make four changes in their starting lineup against the Steelers.

Wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh is active for the first time after missing two games with a hand injury. He will not start. Rookie Chris Henry will start opposite Chad Johnson.

The other lineup changes consist of linebacker David Pollack starting in place of Landon Johnson, Kevin Kaesviharn moving from strong safety to free safety to start in place of Madieu Williams (shoulder injury, inactive) and Ifeanyi Ohalete at strong safety in place of Kaesviharn.

The inactive Bengals players are full Nick Luchey, Williams, center Eric Ghiaciuc (ankle injury), defensive tackle Shaun Smith, defensive end Jonathan Fanene, tight end Tony Stewart (back) and defensive tackle Matthias Askew. Craig Krenzel is the third quarterback.

For the Steelers, there are no changes in the starting lineup. The inactive Steelers players are cornerback Ricardo Colclough, tailback Duce Staley, linebacker Clark Haggans, guard Chris Kemoeatu, offensive tackle Trai Essex, wide receiver Nate Washington and tight end Matt Kranchick. Tommy Maddox is the third quarterback.

Sometimes it's hard to be a Bengals fan. For so many years, we fans have wallowed in the mire, have suffered the endless ridicule, jokes and mirth at the expense of the Bengals. Have watched while the rest of the NFL used our once proud Bengals as the butt of all their jokes, we who remember "The Jungle", Sam Wyche, Boomer Esiason, Kenny Anderson, and where "Who Dey" comes from. Finally, after years of darkness we start to see some light. Marvin Lewis shows up and takes the Bengals seriously, starts to put together a team to sit up and take notice of. Carson Palmer, embraces the challenges of coming to the Bengals and is doing the fans proud. Chad Johnson, so what if he is a big mouth, and a show-off? He has talent and is spirited. And then. Then the Steelers have to show up and have to take the Bengals down. What was that? Here is hoping that the team will know that the fans are always behind them, regardless of how many more years we wallow in the mire. There are fans out in Bengals-land that will never stop believing that someday isn't far off and that someday our Bengals will be called "contenders" and taken seriously by the media. That someday, the big shiny trophy will come to Bengals land and make us all smile, and shout back at the rest, we always were Bengals fans!!

yeah, let's hate on rich people because . . uh, they have money.

What's that got to do with it?

Don't get me wrong. I think Marvin has been a Godsend for the Bengals. But his comment about his team being young after the loss was pretty amusing. Someone should remind him that Rudi had 46 yards of rushing on 9 carries in the 1st quarter alone and they were moving the ball at will. So what should we do. Let's see. That worked too well. Let's try something different. Let's pass and throw a couple of interceptions so they can tee on us for the rest of the game, etc, etc.

Learn how to call a game, before you call your team young. Marv, this one is on you and you were out-coached...

--RB Rudi Johnson ran just 12 times for 65 yards (5.4-yard average) against Pittsburgh. He ran nine times for 46 yards in the first quarter alone, and his final three carries came in the third quarter. "I feel like a thief. And I don't steal," a frustrated Johnson said afterward.

Johnson's rushing attempts have decreased in each of the past three games. He had 19 in Game 4, 18 each of the previous two games and 12 Sunday.

"It ain't because of me. Ain't because of me. I had 50 in the first (quarter)," he said. "You tell me. You do the math. Last time I checked. That's all I'm saying."

Oh, I see. Just another whiny Bush-blamer. Maybe you should worry more about what you do with your money than where other people watch football games.

Congrats Bengals fan. You guys couldn't have hired a better coach. Marvin won our Super Bowl in 2000 not Bilick. He's a tireless worker with awesome game planning skills. His leadership is good for 3 or 4 wins alone. Great move in taking down Chad Johnson's list. A coach that can tell a star player, in public by the way, that personal goals will not be set ahead of team goals sets the tone for the entire team. Oh, by the way, you also have the best Q.B. in the league. Palmer is just starting to get it and he's still young. No mistakes and turnovers are the sign of a championship team. We are all rooting for Marvin here in Baltimore. Except for twice a year of course. Our season was ended today. Good Luck!
