Steelers up 24-10 after three

PITTSBURGH -- Hines Ward continues to hurt the Bengals. He caught at 8-yard touchdown pass -- his second tonight and franchise record 64th of his career -- to put the Steelers up 24-10 at the end of the third quarter.

For the game, the Steelers have 24:49 in possession time. The Bengals, 20:11.

Chris Henry falls down instead of getting hit. Then he doesn't block for TJ.

Yes we know who you are.

Mark
Three questions: Why does Marvin never go on 4th down unless it's late? Why is Rudi Johnson still getting carries? And why does a team down by 2 TDs let the quarter run out without trying to get in a play?

Sometimes i think they're playing for draft position.

Face facts. The Bengals are a pathetic football team. They have nothing going for them. The talent level is low, the coaching staff is clueless, they can't draft or evaluate talent and they have no football people in the front office. Until Mike Brown checks out nothing will change. Even the loser Cardinals seem to be making improvement. Wildman can keep his Bengals!

Why is Leon Hall playing 10 yards back when the Steelers have first and goal on the 8 yard line?

Hines Ward is good, but man that was just unexplainable coverage by Hall.

Are Hall and Joseph this bad? They can't be. Man ya just wonder about the coaching sometimes.

Don't ask Mark any questions about Palmer. Mark thinks Carson is a top 5 QB even though the numbers say otherwise. Must be afraid of losing his quotes from coaches and players or possibly the free meal he gets before every game.

They can continue to draft players out of clown and barber college.

Like I said before, Marvin has made a bad defense worse and a good offense bad. this year will turn out better than next year will. it's over Marv.

how in the world does marvin shula not challenge the henry touchdown? down 14 in the 4th you have to challenge! it's time for the overhaul - every coach, preferably hire GM but that wont happen. Too much potential being wasted

at 12/02/2007 11:26 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Mighty fine coaching by M. Lewis as usual: keep running Rudi Johnson (longest run today = 4 yards) instead of Watson (8) or Dorsey (15), and then don't challenge a close play in the end zone when you still have a challenge. That's one brilliant mind at work.

This is the worst team in the league. I am burning all of my Bengals gear. It is an ambarrasment being from Cincinnati.

great talent, poor minds.

this is a mentally soft football team. there needs to be some major change to counteract that problem.

either roster overhaul, hiring a GM or staff changes. but these are Marvin's players so my guess is the change needs to be made there.

Worst Team In Football. Palmer over-rated, Marvin awful coach. It is amazing they came even find the field.

Gotta lose the rest of the way, get a high draft pick, and pray the same idiot who made the final selections last draft gets fired.

With these coaches, Cincinnati is just a suburb of Miami.

Clown and Barber College would beat the Bengals 3 of 4.

The Dolphins won't go 0-16 this year, that's for sure!

at 12/02/2007 11:35 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

mentally soft? we wish! mentally out to lunch is more like it. soft would be an upgrade.

This team is primed to lose by a group of sad sack coaches.

Absolutely Pathetic.

Bad Team! Dumb penalties, poor defense, nobody willing ( or able) to make a play. Carson Palmer is a very AVERAGE QB. This bunch doesn't know how to win and the coaches can't help. 1 winning season in the last 15 yrs is not a run of bad luck, it is a team philosophy.

at 12/02/2007 11:39 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

You have to report the facts on how bad this team really is. It's your job to be objective. This is the worst coached team in the league. Carson is playing worse then Akili Smith ever played and I want to read an honest assessment about it. Please write about it because it is so painful to watch. Thanks

Palmer is definitely overrated; looks like he's on the take after the first drive. Got my tickets 5 years ago when Marvin came; I'm convinced - someone else can have them. Anyone want my tickets for the Brown's game?

I live in California and wear my Bengals stuff around town. I am putting it all in the fire. I will support the Bengals again when they get a real coach and an owner who cares. It has reached the lowest point I can remember. At least when we were bad before it was because of lack of talent. This is all coaching and character.

Will anyone ever be held accountable, Marvin Lewis couldn't coach a pee wee football team effectively. No challenge flag on Henry's TD, what a joke, I love the play calling, i guess tonights Bratkowski gameplan is to dink and dunk on the first drive and be effective and then change to chucking the ball 40 yards down field every pass or run Rudi right up the middle on first down. Also the nfl needs to retrain all of their officials, the officiating is horrible all across the nfl. I am a season ticket holder, for now, im done if somebody is not held accountable, on a positive note, nice job by the defense in the 2nd half.

M.L. has to go.

at 12/02/2007 11:50 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sad to say it, but it's time to fire Marvin Lewis.

Too many losses -- and it all comes back to the head coach. Sure, the defense coordinator might be to blame but it's Marvin's fault for not changing Chuck B. Also, cornerbacks playing 10 yards off of Hines Ward -- the goto guy -- is inexcusable. The buck stops with Marvin, and if he's not willing/able to fix the situation, then he's got to go.

at 12/02/2007 11:57 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

What gets Marvin fired? 5-11? 6-10? This team was flat out coached tonight. Running when your down by 14 with a guy who hasn't done squate all season. Letting the clock run out in the third. Not challenging the Henry catch. Penalties that destroyed this team. The Bungles are back. Fire Marvin and try to get Bill Cowher in here please. My goodness, what a poorly coached team. Marvin has had his chance, he has failed. Any other city would kick him out by now. It is more than time for him to go. One 11-5 season (with an easy schedule) does not warrant one keeping his job. Part of the problem with Cincinnati football is the low expectation of the fans. Do you think Pats fans would settle for (or look forward to) 8-8? Hell, the Giants are winning games and Eli's head is being called for. Not us. Give us mediocre. Simply the worst franchise in football.

The Bengals are the New York Knicks of the NFL, plenty of talent with a clueless coach.

Marvin Lewis and Isiah Thomas both receive unconditional support from their owners, while it is incredibly obvious that they are both consistently outcoached and in way over their heads. When was Marvin EVER made a clever in-game decision??? I can't think of one! I could write a book, however, full of all of his foolish decisions!

A team is ultimately a reflection of their coach, especially when the coach has been in charge for 5 years. Penalties, foolish decision making, lack of proper in-game adjustments have all become hallmarks of the Bengals - they're all a reflection of Marvin Lewis.

Looks like Carson is afraid to accept that he's a really good QB. His inconsistency was a big part not only of this night's loose, but the entire mediocre season. Carson, if you wanna stink, you will. Everthing will change when you start believing in yourself... if you dare to do it someday.

at 12/03/2007 12:20 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I am sure we will hear how safe Marvin's job is and he will get away with he demeaning attitude towards the media at the press conference. Our media is a joke. They take Marvin's crap even though he should be the one on the hot seat. When is someone going to stand up to him and demand answers. He is a bad coach and a bad guy. No wonder our players are thugs. It's a reflection.

at 12/03/2007 12:24 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Please Fire MArvin. And if Carson doesn't want to try, sit him for a few weeks. We aren't going anywhere so let him watch someone at least give his all. He has gotten worse every year he has been here. One good game last week against a broken team and everyone forgives his sorry profomence. I don't know if i am more disgusted with Marvin or Carson. They are both big babies.

The fault lies with MIKE BROWN! He's been allowed to dodge criticism for five years, but make no mistake about it. Once he took over the Bengals have stunk ever since!!!!!!!

(full disclosure: i am a steeler fan.) the bengals organization needs to draft for quality people, not just talent. the steelers's stability and consistency comes from drafting quality people who they develop themselves. the steelers rarely sign free agents, and are happy to be patient as players develop and fill the roles of players who leave, like joey porter, and, possibly, alan faneca. the bengals are doing a nice thing in being patient with lewis, who is a decent coach and good man, but yes, it might be time to make a change. it would be a shame to dump all the blame on him, though. he does a decent job with a team that needs more focus than the team inherently has, given its character flaws within its personnel makeup. until they change the way they approach the draft, they will likely have problems with ANYone in the head coach position.
that said, GO STEELERS!

at 12/03/2007 1:27 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

The players are baked and done. They've quit to a man and will continue to draw their thousands of dollars each week. What happens to the average Bengal Fan (I really meant to say schmuck) when they fail to perform? I bet they don't get their weekly dose of cash, like the orange and black striped quitters we watch each week.

Steeler fan makes a great point. As much as I hate the Steelers. it is and has alway been the system. We have had five years with Marv and there is no system whatsoever. They loose a great player they fill the spot and move on. We loose a great player and draft a crackhead. It really isn't funny. We have no idea how to really run a football team. Let's start with Parcels and then see what happens. He left Dallas looking like a good system, not to mention everywhere else. BA-BYE MARV

I understand it's bad right now, but Carson Palmer is not a "below average QB". Go tell that to fans of the 49ers, Bears, Vikings, Falcons, Ravens, Giants, Cardinals, Broncos, Raiders, Chiefs, Chargers, Jets, Dolphins, Bills, Panthers and a host of other teams.

He was awful tonight, but at least when he's bad, he's accountable.

While there are some unforgivable mistakes and I'd also boo to show my displeasure, there is some ridiculous hyperbole here. Anybody who wants to burn their t-shirts or give away tickets is worse than a bad fan, they're an idiot.

Hey 11:06!!! I'm right there with you. Carson has turned into an average quarterback at best but everyone is afraid to call it like it is. I thought he was the best QB in football, but now I think you have to think about a replacement if this continues. I really question his intelligence, at least football wise. He never reads anything under than the called play. Sad to see.

The Knicks have plenty of talent? You MUST be on METH!

Please fire Marvin and get Bill Cowher.

Cowher at all costs.

And then learn how to draft quality players (not just talent).

yeah right, joey porter: "quality person".

Steelers fans cheer for the dirtiest team in the league.

The best you can do is a Joey Porter reference? First off, they traded Porter, and that seems to have worked out ok. Let's look at another transaction that is working out: Andre Frazier. Guy played like a stud in preseason and what did the brain trust at Clowntown do? They waived him. Look who is playing like a special teams stud in the Burgh.
The Steelers do have quality PLAYERS, not people, no one claims the Steelers are quality people.
Here's another lesson for you Bengal fans who just don't get it, the Steelers manage their Joey Porters well. Joey had not one instance of off field crap until he was traded to Miami. You can be assured that after the second Steeler was arrested, something drastic would have been done. It would NEVER have gotten even remoely close to the level of anarchy this BunGAL team got to.
Talking about football to the "New Bengal Fan" (fans who came along in the Marvin era for the WWE quality of this team with the CJ crap and all the talking) is like talking religion with a zealot who has never opened the Bible. The old guard gave up on this franchise long ago, the knowledgable fan is gone, replaced with fans who wear CJ jerseys because he is so entertaining, and love TJ, and can't wait to hear Brad Johansen say Touchdown Ruuuuuuuddi. Problem is this:
CJ is a cancer, and is so overrated it is hard to know where to begin. Plus he is a wuss who can't take a hit and last I checked, this is the NFL.
TJ is a baby, loses focus the instant the ball is snapped with his incesssant ref baiting.
And Brad J, is a good guy, I like him, but he is terrible. He and Lap have got to be the worst play by play team in the world, but Mike keeps em there cause he can control them (see BJ and Lap's contracts).
This team is subpar and cut rate from the team facilities, non football personnel, stadium experience, football personel, broadcast team, and players and it all comes from one guy Mikey Mike. Other than thatm it is a class organization!
Keep buying those tickets you saps. It ain't ever gonna change until you stop coming to the games, the other AFC North team owners complain, and the NFL forces Mike to hire another Marvin Lewis and turn over power. As long as you fill the seats, nothing will change, ever.
Mike Brown's Clowns forever!
3S Stay Stoopid Sincy!
