Kitna excited to see old teammates

Talked late this afternoon to former Bengals quarterback Jon Kitna, now heading into his second year as Lions starter. The Bengals will open their preseason Thursday night at Detroit.

Kitna said he and his family are very happy in Detroit.

"I started watching tape on them today," he said. "I played with these guys for five years. It seems so long since we played together, but it has been just a little more than a year. I 'm looking forward to seeing Carson (Palmer), T.J. (Houshmandzadeh) and Chad (Johnson). I don't know a lot of the guys on defense. Most of them are gone."

Kitna said coaches had not told him yet, but he expects that he and the other Lions starters will play a series or two in the opener at Ford Field.

We'll have the full story in The Enquirer a little later in the week in advance of the game.

Make sure you ask him about his outrageous predictions for the coming Lions season. Ten wins? On what planet? (Especially with HIM at QB.)

Ten wins probably not, But not Kitna's fault. Without him maybe 4 wins. With him 8-8.

I love people that try to bash Kitna, yet great football minds like Mike Martz, Marvin Lewis, and Holmgren all praise him. And he has remained a starter for a great majority of his very long career....If you trully watched Detriot last year, you know that Kitna was actually one of the few bright spots on a team with an enigmatic defense, no run game, and a poor O-line.....Kitna was 8-8 in his last year as a starter with the Bengals...I looked at our record last year, and saw we were 8-8 as well.... I think the talent level last year was far better than in Kitna's last year, yet Carson Palmer's team ended up 8-8..Do you blame Carson for that, or so you analyze the team as a whole
