Irons injures knee, on crutches

DETROIT -- Bengals second-round pick Kenny Irons, counted on to provide a change-of-pace spark for the offense, injured his left knee during the second quarter of the preseason opener Thursday night and was on crutches after the game.

He was examined by doctors in the training room at Ford Field. Coach Marvin Lewis confirmed the knee injury but did not have additional information.

Irons will have an MRI.

doesn't that just figure? maybe perry can contribute one leg, and irons the other? it'll be like a potato-sack race.

So the Bengals have wasted a high draft pick on another injury-prone running back. Who could have anticipated that?

ok so now back to the Chris Perry question. What's his status and how come we NEVER hear anything on him? And, is he the slowest healer ever? Hopefully nothing is seriously wrong with Irons, but if Perry can return and stay healthy, that'd be a big plus.

somewhere, Chris Perry is smiling.

What happens when Marvin drafts injury prone players. THEY GET INJURED! Marvin should not draft running backs. At lease Irons had an impressive camp during his short career. Maybe next year.

Looks to me like he tore his ACL. He's gone for the season, if not forever. When, if ever, will Chris Perry be available?

Right on, good way to start the season!

--- Offensive Line is a joke without Willie & Levi

--- Secondary that gave up 450+ yards

--- Penalties all over the place

--- Dropped passes by the "third" receivers....McNeal, Brazell, Green

Yep..we're Super Bowl Bound.... :)

I hope it isn't bad. Irons would be the second Bengal high round runningback draft pick that we have lost during the first preseason game in Detroit. Ki-Jana your ghost is out there....

Please don't pull a Ki-Jana on us!

Why do we continue to play at Detroit? How many injuries do we have to endure there (Silverdome (or Silverdoom), Ford Field...)?
Another reason to reduce the exhibitions to two games.
Maybe LJ will become available.

Let's not throw in the towel just yet. Carson, Chad, TJ, Rudi and Justin looked flat out ready for the season. The o-line looked solid, even without Levi and Willie. Our first team offense flat out handled their 1st D. Let's get J-Jo back and give our secondary a few weeks before we crown Baltimore.

Only in Cincinnati are people already bitching and moaning and ready to give up the entire season after our starters took 12 snaps.

The offensive tackles have proven they don't need two months of training to get ready for the season.

Irons' status hasn't been disclosed yet, and if even he is lost for the year...um, we still have a 1300 yard RB who annually scores double digit TD's.

The starting defense shutout the Lions when it counted, and I'm not going to give up my season tickets based on the performance of practice squad guys on defense that gave up yardage to the Lion's 3rd string QB in the first preason game of the year.

Quit crying. The Colts only won one preseason game last season, and did not win any the year before.

Weren't we up something like 26-13 before some, errr, players that won't even make the team made mistakes? I highly doubt the Bengals were expecting Irons to be the linch pin to a Super Bowl season...Palmer didn't get touched, even without Willie & Levi...The pressure cam ewhen the backups' backups were in there...The only thing any of you should scratch your chin at is Graham missing the field goal...Indoors, on turf, that should be a gimme...The Bengals go undefeated in the division this year...Book it!

I want to write off the first game, but given the rash of injuries, if we have to play these backups, it's going to be a long year. I don't understand why we give no priority to TE (look at Heap, MIller and Winslow in the division) so we have a plodding blcoker (Kelly) and a bunch of scrubs. And, we have another fragile RB on our hands to suck up payroll. Great. Maybe Marvin is no better than an 8-8 coach. We had a lot of good luck in 05.

Hey Mark! I just read on ESPN that Kenny Irons is out for the season with a torn ACL. News Flash, you run a blog in Cincinnati, maybe you should have broken this story first. Get off your @ss and report something. Right now I am providing more content to your readers.

Mike..... the starting offensive line looked very good even without willie and Levi..actually maybe even a lil better.

The rest of your comments make no sense dude and shows you know nothing about football

After the first 7 or 8 minutes..you were watching 2nd 3rd and 4th stringers..all the crap you saw means nothing.

Considering you rationale, I would imagine that Indianapolis( because of terrible pre-season performances) has no chance of going to the supetbowl

Too funny Mike
