Bengals lose QB Wright to Giants

The New York Daily News reported this morning that quarterback Anthony Wright has signed a two-year contract to be the Giants' top backup behind starter Eli Manning.

As recently as Tuesday, Wright, who spent 2006 as Carson Palmer's backup, had a nameplate above a cubicle in the Bengals' locker room.

Internet reports say the Bengals have turned their attention to former Buccaneers quarterback Tim Rattay. The only other quarterback on the Cincinnati roster is Doug Johnson, who was No. 3 last season.

Tim Rattay would be a solid pickup. This team needs to sign him now. If anything would happen to Palmer, they need someone that can play well and Rattay can do that (check his numbers).

Perfect. I'm aware of the Bengal's economics issues, but seriously, did the Giants offer that much more than the Bengals thought they could? Tim Rattay? If Carson gets hurt, then there's big problem no matter what. I thought Anthony Wright was at least serviceable ... but Tim Rattay?

seems like a step back ... not forward.

It's almost funny to listen to people who obvioulsy don't knowe the salary cap. News flash-- if carson gets hurt we are in trouble.Tim rattay or Anthony Wright. They want to keep Steinbach, sign Wright, bring in big $ free agents, sign high character Reggie Kelly/Kenny Watson, keep our stars signed. Obviously something has to give. If we are going to start whinning over "losing" anthony wright and Tim Rattay isn't good enough as a backup...? I wish we could have it all also but then so would every other team.

Didn't know Mickelson could through a ball! (Kidding BTW). Not that I am opposed to Lorenzan (sp?) I personally feel it is time for the Bengals to develop a QB similar to Indy and Sorgi. I don't think anyone was really taken off-guard by Wright leaving. He has a better chance at starting with Eli in hot seat there and prob. better money as well.

I think that the Bengals would be better to invest money in a QB and keep him around 3 or 4 years. I think that Doug J. proved in exhibition last year he can handle the offense. I am not looking for anything above a QB to manage the offense and I think Doug can do that!

Any word on Justin Smith's status ? I heard he was not in camp, which is totally unlike his past years. Can he possibly be unhappy making $8 million for 1 year when he's slightly better than an 'average' DE ?

Tim Rattay would be a great sign!He fits the system much better than Anthony Wright and his numbers are much better. Would be a nice addition.
