Steinbach charged with boating DUI on Ohio River

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- Bengals left guard Eric Steinbach was arrested Saturday night and charged with a operating a boat under the influence of alcohol on the Ohio River. He was arrested by an officer with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. Steinbach was stopped for speeding by the officer in the idle-only speed zone between the Interstate 75 and Interstate 471 bridges, Mark Marraccini, spokesman for the agency, said tonight.

The officer ran Steinbach through a series of field sobriety tests, which he failed, Marraccini said. At that point, Steinbach was arrested and taken to the Campbell County Jail. He refused a breath test. The Bengals do not comment on ongoing legal issues involving their players. Steinbach practiced Monday night.

Walk the plank, Steinbach

Come on Mark - You "blog" exactly what you write in your articles. You MUST have an opinion of the continued legal woes and stupidity of these guys, and what should/can be done about it. What is it?

First, Steinbach eases up coverage on Kimo von Whatchacallem to watch Carson Palmer's pass, giving Kimo easy access to Palmer's knee. Now, he's drunk on a boat. What an idiot. And this guy expects a contract?

Would not passing a "Field sobriety test" on the water require walking on it? Only Carson Palmer could do that.

Give Steinbach a break!

Maybe we need a hotline so fans can preempt the behavior of Bengals players in public.

38D-RUNK?

I'd tell the team that due to Mr. Steinbach's behavior they will not have another off day.

When is Hamilton County going to finish that prison to hold all these Bengals players... lets see we now have:

Eric Steinbach
AJ Nicholson
O'Dell Thurman
Frostee Rucker
Chris Henry
Matthias Askew

... and the worst part is these are only the guys who have been caught. I could go on with a laundry list from the ex-Bengal players as well.

Perhaps the should rename the team to the Cincinnati Outlaws.

Sad very sad!

Here's what bothers me about this entire situation:
1) This is the fifth or sixth Bengal since the end of last season to get into trouble with the law.
2) This most recent event happened during training camp - a time when the head coach should have a high level of control over his players - moreso than the offseason. It appears as if Marvin Lewis has no control over his personnel. After the first incident with Chris Henry, the entire team should have been put on notice that this type of behavior would not be tolerated.
3) These incidents are an embarrassment to the citizens of Cincinnati.
4) It is apparent that the Bengals players have no respect for themselves, their teammates, their coaches, or the people of Cincinnati.

I'm all for the Bengals winning a Superbowl, but not at the expense of perverbially selling their souls to the devil by not addressing this situation.

Marvin Lewis may be a decent football coach on the field, but it is apparent he does not have the respect of his players nor the skills to manage his players properly. Coach Lewis is the problem here. He should resign or be fired.

Firing Marvin is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Geez you guys are morons. Before this offseason, how many times did Steinbach get into trouble as a Bengal? Askew? Henry? Thurman? It's been a rough offseason, but whoever thinks Marvin really gives a damn outside of having to answer questions from media is mistaken. It's their JOBS. This more than ever will keep them focused. When you're playing or practicing, noone is going to bother you with cameras and microphones in your grill asking you innane questions. This team is an embarrassment to the citizens of Cincinnati?? Murders are up, population is declining faster than any city, the whole Banks fiasco and yet THIS is the embarrassment? Give me a break. The Bengals could ALL be convicted murderers from Avondale and I would still gladly pay for my season tickets. You know why? Sports is an escape. For three hours a week for five months I get a break from the routines of normal life to watch a game played by people I don't know. Do I wish they are all saints? Sure, if only so I wouldn't have to hear the whinings of bandwagoneers. What's the worst thing done all offseason? A DUI. That's really bad, but EVERYONE knows someone who has screwed up and received one. Rucker's charges will be dropped. Same with Nicholson's. Henry's will be reduced. Thurman never got arrested. Askew's incident is in question, and he was going to be released regardless. So quit whining and moaning about the godless-ness of the heathens on the Bengals. Cheer on a very good, possible Super Bowl team as it defends it's AFC North crown.

WHO DEY?!?

Firing Marvin?? Are you stupid? Marvin is NOT a babysitter. These guys are ADULTS. If they mess up, then they must pay. But don't take it out on Marvin.

Milford Joe's post shows exactly why these morons think they are above the law. In his mind, they are. At least as long as we win.

This is outrageous! I have NEVER had a few beers with dinner and then gone out to have some fun. Steinbach is a criminal!
The next time he wants to go have beers with dinner and then go boating, I want to go with him.

While coach Lewis may not be a babysitter, he is responsible for this football team.

I wonder what the reaction of all the fans would be if the Bengals were still losing and their team was full of criminals? I bet they'd use the criminal players as an excuse...

It doesn't make a bit of sense that someone could say that they'd still go to pay to see a whole team of murderers play football as long as they are winning because it is an "escape". How is watching a bunch of murderes an escape from murder?

Yes, Cincinnati has a very large problem on it's hands with crime, and the Bengals look to be a small part of it. But, if Cincinnati wants to clean up the city and lower the crime rate, and gain some respectability back, the Bengals should do their part and get rid of the players cuasing the problems, as well as the coach that cannot control his team.

At no time during your idiotic rambling did you come any where close to making a logical point. Everyone is now dumber for having to read your asinine comment. I award you know points and may God have mercy on your soul. Your comment is marked by an inexcusable failure to exercise intelligence or sound judgement. If you rely on a football team to be you or your family's moral compass than you are beyond help.
